Setya Novanto, Indonesian House Speaker has been arrested by the country’s Corruption Eradication Commission over his alleged role in the theft of $170 million linked to a national electronic identity card scheme. According to the information our correspondent gathered, Setya Novanto had been dodging his invitation for questioning to the anti- graft’s office but unfortunately for him, on Thursday night, November 16, he had a car accident. This made the country’s Corruption Eradication Commission to arrest him when he was admitted in hospital. After he was discharged from the hospital on Sunday night, Setya Novanto was sent to the Corruption Eradication Commission detention centre where he would stay for 20 days for questioning according to the commission spokesman, Febri Diansyah. Setya Novanto is among 80 people (mostly politicians and government officials) and companies who allegedly stole $170 million linked to a national electronic identity card scheme.
