Nigerian Air Force aircraft crash in Ondo State

Nigerian Air Force Aircraft Crash in Ondo Leaves 25 Dead as Investigation Begins

A Nigerian Air Force ATR-42 aircraft has crashed near Igbokoda in Ondo State, killing all 25 people on board.

The aircraft was travelling from Benin City to Lagos when air traffic controllers lost contact with it.

The Nigerian Air Force confirmed that five crew members and 20 passengers were on board.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ordered a thorough investigation into the crash and declared three days of national mourning for the military personnel who died.

The investigation is expected to establish what caused the aircraft to crash and whether mechanical, operational, weather or other factors were involved.

The tragedy has also renewed attention on the condition, maintenance and operational safety of military aircraft used for official transportation.

The priority now is to establish the facts rather than speculate about the cause.

What Nigerians should watch next is the outcome of the investigation, including any recommendations concerning aircraft maintenance, operational procedures and military aviation safety.
