Somehow, supporters of Mr. Peter Obi believe that presidential debates should take place among candidates seeking the nation’s highest office and not between a presidential aspirant and a serving minister. They argue that ministers should remain focused on carrying out the responsibilities of their respective offices.
Many of Mr. Peter Obi’s supporters also describe him as one of Nigeria’s leading opposition figures, citing what they consider to be his record in public service, leadership style and commitment to accountability. They believe these qualities have earned him widespread support across different parts of the country ahead of the 2027 general election.
Some critics of Mr. Umahi have also raised questions about his public record and argue that he should concentrate on delivering infrastructure projects and other responsibilities assigned to his ministry rather than engaging in political exchanges.
Supporters of the Works Minister, however, maintain that public officials are entitled to defend government policies and participate in political discussions as long as they do so within the law.
