Retired workers of Ebonyi State University are demanding answers over outstanding pensions and gratuities, saying some former employees have died while waiting for benefits earned after years of public service.
Representatives of the retirees have claimed that 209 former workers have died while waiting for their entitlements. That figure remains a claim by the retirees and has not been independently verified.
The complaint comes against the background of the Ebonyi State Government’s reported efforts to clear accumulated pension and gratuity liabilities. The state pension authorities have said about 18 billion naira has been committed toward clearing outstanding obligations.
