Nigeria appears to be one of the few countries where terrorists and bandits can invade communities, chase and kill residents, including members of the armed forces, and the situation begins to look almost normal.
What is happening in Nigeria today is deeply unfortunate. Both serving military generals and civilians continue to lose their lives to terrorists and bandits, yet there is no clear indication of a decisive and sustained war strategy strong enough to eliminate these threats. This reality raises serious concerns about the effectiveness of the country’s security response.
If military generals can be killed in such circumstances, it sends a troubling message about the value placed on human life and the level of control the state currently has over security. It creates the impression that these armed groups are gaining the upper hand, which is dangerous for any nation.
As a result, Nigerians must begin to reflect seriously as the 2027 elections approach. The opportunity to elect new leadership comes with the responsibility to evaluate performance, especially in critical areas such as security and economic stability.
There is a growing view among many citizens that the current administration, led by President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress, has not met expectations in addressing insecurity and broader governance challenges.
If Nigeria is to overcome insecurity and reduce poverty, voters will need to make decisions based on outcomes, accountability, and the direction they believe the country should take moving forward.
