Security convoy on a road in Zamfara State after gunmen ambushed traders travelling to market

GUNMEN KILL AT LEAST TWENTY TRADERS IN ZAMFARA STATE

Gunmen have killed at least twenty traders travelling to a market in Zamfara State. The traders were moving in a convoy under military escort when the attackers struck.

The incident has once again exposed the danger facing ordinary people in northwestern Nigeria. Many families depend on farming, trading and transport to survive, yet these are the very activities most affected by repeated attacks.

Military escorts may offer some protection, but they cannot solve the problem alone. Government needs better intelligence, stronger cooperation with local communities and a clear plan to track and prosecute those behind the violence.

Citizens should also ask how security funds meant for Zamfara State and the wider northwest are being used. They deserve regular updates on arrests, prosecutions and measures taken to protect rural communities.

The real test now is whether the government will move beyond temporary deployments and provide lasting safety for people who only want to earn an honest living.
