SAVVY SHIELDS (MISS ARKANSAS) HAS WON THE 96TH MISS AMERICAN PAGEANT.

Miss Arkansas, Savvy Shields was on Sunday, September 11, 2016 declared the winner of the 96th Miss America Pageant which was held inside Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The 21 year old beauty queen defeated the 52 contestants to win the crown and the title of Miss America 2017. She will succeed the outgoing Miss America, Betty Cantrell. The first runner up of the contest is Miss South Carolina (Rachel Wyatt), second runner-up is Miss New York (Camille Sims), the third runner-up is Miss Washington (Alicia Cooper) and the fourth runner-up is Miss Mississippi (Laura Lee Lewis). This year’s pageant included contestants from all 50 states in the United States, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

Miss American contests was first organized in 1921 in Atlantic City (New Jersey) as a means to entice tourists to Atlantic City, New Jersey. Then Margaret Gorman of Washington, D.C. (60 years old) was crowned Miss America 1921. Congratulations to Savvy Shields.
