YEMI OSINBAJO (THE VICE PRESIDENT OF NIGERIA) DURING THE 2016 CONVOCATION CEREMONY OF AFE BABALOLA UNIVERSITY IN ADO EKITI DECLARED THAT ALL GOVERNMENT INSTITUTIONS ARE CORRUPT. HE WAS RIGHT, BUT HOW WOULD YOUR GOVERNMENT PUT AN END TO IT?

Corruption in Nigeria started many years ago, right from when Nigeria got her independence from Britain. Why it was not noticed then was that things were still affordable, the poor ones in the country could get money to buy their essential commodities and based on that, the citizens of the country were less concerned about corruption and who rules them. As the year passes by, development keeps coming to the doorsteps of everyone which is very good, people’s needs increases and becomes a do or die affair because what they were getting before were no longer coming, hunger sets in. We can go on and on to describe this situation, however corruption became worst and celebrated when ex-president Goodluck Jonathan was in power. He opened the treasury of Nigeria for people who have no business being there to loot all the proceeds of the country (Nigeria). Instead of using the available resources within his reach as a president of Nigeria to create infrastructures that would bring benefits to all the people of the country (Nigeria), which he never did instead the country’s hard earned money was shared among his associates which made him one of the worst leaders in the history of Nigeria. Right now president Buhari’s government is hunting for those alleged looters who served under ex-president Goodluck Jonathan’s administration so that they could bring back what they alleged to have stolen from the treasury of Nigeria.
Another problem is that president Buhari’s government took over the leadership of the country when things has already gone bad but we are very sure that he shall bring Nigeria out of the current problem which the country is facing and his government’s willingness to eradicate corruption most especially in government’s institutions has given them a pass mark in the eyes of the world. The only thing Nigerians need right now is patience, understanding and support for president Buhari’s government so as to put things right.
