Yahaya Bello

If the Law Truly Worked in Nigeria, Yahaya Bello Should Be in Prison by Now

If Nigeria were a country where the rule of law truly works, former Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State would have been in prison by now.

Former Governor Yahaya Bello was accused by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission of stealing billions of naira belonging to the people of Kogi State, yet the case has not been fully concluded till today. Despite these serious allegations, the same man is now reportedly planning to contest for the Kogi Central senatorial seat, which is currently occupied by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

This is the same senator whom Yahaya Bello allegedly humiliated during his time as governor of Kogi State. During the last senatorial election in the state, it was alleged that Yahaya Bello and his associates dug a large pit on an access road to prevent vehicles conveying election materials and supporters of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from reaching polling venues. This action, if true, was not only wicked but also childish and undemocratic.

There are many other allegations linked to Yahaya Bello’s tenure as governor, actions believed by many to have caused hardship to the people of Kogi State. Now, a man with such a controversial past is preparing to contest for a senatorial seat against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan once again.

Believe it or not, many residents of Kogi State are convinced that Yahaya Bello will lose the senatorial election because of his past actions, which remain fresh in the minds of the people.
We will closely monitor the senatorial election process when the time comes and provide a comprehensive report to the people of Kogi State and the world at large.

Democracy cannot thrive where accountability is ignored and alleged misconduct goes unpunished. The people of Kogi State deserve leaders with integrity, respect for the rule of law, and a genuine commitment to public service. As the next senatorial election approaches, the past actions of those seeking office will continue to shape public opinion and ultimately determine the outcome at the polls.
