Viewers Corner News and the advisory team gathered recently that the federal government of Nigeria has banned the importation of used vehicles coming through land borders in the country (Nigeria) which takes effect from January 2017. There are lots of advantages that would have come to the federal government of Nigeria if this ban is not put in place which would be more than the disadvantages. It is true that so many wrong activities are coming through land borders into the country (Nigeria) but there is always a better way to carry out border control activities so that unlawful actions would be reduced to the lowest level or eradicated completely. It is only natural that products which Nigeria do not produce should not be banned, the only thing here is that the president’s economic team if there is any should study the issue properly before taking any decision on it (importation of vehicles through land borders in Nigeria) because as it is now, we (Viewers Corner News team) assume that the decision of the federal government of Nigeria was not thought through properly concerning this ban. In our (Viewers Corner News team) opinion, what should have been done is this, any imported vehicle that is coming through land border to Nigeria should be taxed properly, this would bring more revenue to the country (Nigeria). Again the ban is not right, somehow placing more taxes on imported used vehicles coming through land borders would be more appropriate. This system is the most effective way to control this aspect of importation and if this is carried out correctly, then the decision rests on the customer and the importer to make on which option best suit them. If they compare the cost through the land and that of the sea, it would pay them to import their vehicles through the port. The only thing is that this aspect of importation should properly be implemented so that the federal government of Nigeria can earn more revenues through this process. Taxation is a good source of income to every government anywhere in the world and in so doing Nigeria would earn huge income by taxing these imported used vehicles coming through land borders across the country (Nigeria). Please do not ban what Nigeria can not produce, however every government should be very careful on the choice they make concerning banning various products so that it does not create or disrupt the day to day activities of their citizens. Something like imported used vehicles whether is from the port or through land borders should be encouraged but more taxes should be collected on the consignments. Having said this, it is only the federal government of Nigeria that knows why vehicles coming through land borders were banned but then it would have been better to have more dedicated and honest officers placed on various borders and at the same time have more taxes collected from imported used vehicles coming into the country through land borders. Nigeria right now needs more revenues to solve the problems of recession so that the citizens of the country (Nigeria) can live a normal and good life.
