United States Media Must Research Properly Before Denying Genocide in Nigeria

Some news media outlets in the United States should conduct proper research before publicly stating that there is no genocide happening in Nigeria. When such claims are made, Nigerians are left wondering whether these media organisations have been influenced or paid to present a false narrative.

We categorically state that genocide is happening in Nigeria, especially in the northern part of the country, where the Christian community has been most affected. These killings are being carried out by various terrorist groups operating in the region. We also want to address those United States media outlets that have never visited Nigeria, do not have representatives on ground, and rely only on online information to form conclusions. Such media organisations should be careful and responsible in their reporting.
It is either the truth is reported without bias or such outlets should refrain from commenting on Nigeria. It is unacceptable to deny the suffering of victims without proper investigation. Many Nigerians believe that some of these reports are attempts at damage control rather than honest journalism.

Nigeria is currently regarded by many reports as one of the most dangerous places in the world to be a Christian. It is widely believed that Fulani terrorist groups and other armed groups are responsible for the ongoing killings. This is not hidden information. Even the United States government is aware of this reality. This awareness led to reported military action against terrorist hideouts in northern Nigeria, particularly in Sokoto State. That operation caused serious damage to these terrorist groups and placed them and their sponsors on high alert.
Given these facts, it is unfair and misleading for any news media organisation in the United States or elsewhere to claim that no genocide is happening in Nigeria. Human beings are being killed daily in ways that should never be tolerated.

Journalism comes with responsibility. The truth must always come before political convenience or external influence. People are dying every day in Nigeria, and their suffering should not be denied or ignored. Media organisations must either report what is truly happening in Nigeria with honesty and balance or remain silent on issues they do not fully understand. Human lives matter, and denying their pain only deepens the injustice.
