Some top Nigerian politicians from a few political parties, as well as activists in Nigeria, who spoke to a Viewers Corner News correspondent in Abuja, said that the recent announcement made by lawmakers at the National Assembly concerning the electronic transmission of election results is an attempt to rig the APC and President Bola Tinubu back to power in 2027. Nigerians, they said, will not accept that. Based on this, it is unclear what actions may follow if the election results are rigged in 2027.
However, we are appealing to the lawmakers at the National Assembly of Nigeria to pass all necessary bills into law that will guarantee fairness in the 2027 democratic election. Due process should be followed, and the true winner of the election should be announced in accordance with the law.
Doing so would bring peace to Nigeria, because if someone who did not win an election is announced as the winner, it may lead to chaos, as seen in other countries of the world where citizens marched to national assemblies and burned them down, including other government buildings. In some cases, politicians were allegedly killed in the process.
Hence, we are appealing to lawmakers in Nigeria to enact laws that will guarantee a free and fair election.
