It was reported that explosions and gunfire hit a compound in the Westland district of Nairobi (Kenya) which houses the DusitD2 hotel and some offices on Tuesday 15 January 2019 and the Somali based militant group (al-Shabab) have claimed responsibility for the attack. Our (Viewers Corner News) source who witnessed the attack narrated that many people fled into the streets and the hotel (DusitD2) building was surrounded by heavily armed police officers.
Al-Shabab, a Somali based Islamic militant group which opposes Somali government has carried out several attacks throughout East Africa. In 2013, the al-Shabab attacked Westgate shopping mall in Nairobi killing 71 people and in April 2015, about 150 people were also killed when al-Shabab militants attacked Garissa University in northeastern Kenya.
