The Nigerian army has destroyed so many buildings in the Oghede community in Edo state, Nigeria, claiming that those areas belong to them.

Information reaching the Viewers Corner News from our correspondent in Benin City, the capital of Edo State in Nigeria, revealed that the Nigerian army went into Oghede community in Edo State and pulled down so many buildings, claiming that the area where those buildings were located belonged to them. Again, more buildings have been marked for demolition by the Nigerian army in that Oghede community, which is bad. In our opinion, we believe that the Nigerian army went too far; they are not in a position to destroy people’s properties, no matter the situation, unless due process was followed. If Nigeria is a place where the rule of law works, the management of the Nigerian army should be made to pay damages for destroying buildings that belong to the people of the Oghede community. We also want to inform the Nigerian army that before they ever came to the Oghede community, human beings had been living there who are believed to be the owners of that community, but out of kindness, a part was given to the Nigerian army where they built their barracks, which is far from the place they are claiming now to be their own. So we are calling on the appropriate authorities in Nigeria to call on the management of the Nigerian army to stop harassing the people of the Oghede community. Possibly the Nigerian army should rebuild or compensate the people of the Oghede community whose buildings were destroyed. The Nigerian army should stay in their barracks, which were allocated to them, and leave the Oghede community alone because they are peace-loving people who are doing their things in accordance with the laws of Nigeria. This is based on our findings.
