Information reaching us (Viewers Corner News) revealed that Nigerians are complaining bitterly as a result of President Buhari’s inability to start fixing the Nigerian economy as he promised during the election campaign which majority of Nigerians overwhelmingly voted for him and now the economic situation of Nigeria is getting worse. Nigerians are complaining so much that the dollar is rising against the Naira on a terrible rate which is affecting the Nigerian public and President Buhari is always on the move from one country to the other without telling the Nigerian people what his visits are all about. Normally as a country (Nigeria) running a democratic system of government which is transparent to some extent, the public should at least know what is going on within the economy and what the President is doing to address it but is like Buhari’s administration is running a close system of government which does not go too well with most people in Nigeria. President Buhari is only fighting the war on corruption and has forgotten other areas of the economy which is biting very hard on the citizens of Nigeria, the unemployment rate has gone up so badly. As if that is not enough, the minister of power, works and housing, Babatunde Fashola and his ministry came up with new tariff policy which the Nigerian public is totally against. We (Viewers Corner News) have written an article on this topic in the past and we are going to throw more light on this issue again, there is nothing wrong if an increase is being carried out or implemented in any sector of the economy but before this is done, so many factors have to be considered first. The best thing to do at this moment is to normalize the power sector of the economy before increasing any tariff on power or on any other facilities in the country, lots of people in Nigeria are still in darkness, light is not constant and the government wants to increase electricity tariff, such system is not right. First give people the facilities and after a period of time, you can then assess the possibilities whether to increase tariff or not but at this point we believe that the ministry responsible for power in Nigeria has not done enough for the people so it does not make any sense if you go on with your increase, such idea may make your government very unpopular in the long run.
Therefore, we (Viewers Corner News) are advising the minister (Babatunde Fashola) and his ministry to please trade cautiously most especially on this tariff issue because this is capable of bringing a good government down. Again, our (Viewers Corner News) assessment of president Buhari’s administration is that he is doing quite well on the war against corruption but his approach towards economic development in the country has not shown real positive result yet and most ministers in the Buhari’s government are not doing so well in their various areas. We are suggesting that the new economic team if there is any which is at work now or would be at work later should please carry out proper reforms that can attract both foreign and local investors which would create job opportunities for people in the country (Nigeria) because as it is now, the Nigerian economy does not look so encouraging. We pray and hope it gets better again but only if all the necessary advise given are properly followed and implemented by President Buhari’s government.
