The Enugu state government in Nigeria is one of those states owing pensioners in the country.
This attitude of the state government in Nigeria owing pensioners’ allowances and gratuity has reached an alarming stage. Honestly, something must be done to correct this ugly trend in Nigeria. How can someone put all his life in the service of a nation, hoping that when he or she retires from active service, the pension allowance the said individual will receive on a monthly basis to take care of his or her old age is not paid? Now such hope has been thrown into the trash box because the expected money is not forth coming. It is very wrong to owe these elderly people who worked throughout their lives across Nigeria. We ask, how do you want them to survive if you do not pay their pension allowances? It means that the state government owing these pensioners wants them dead which is not right. Based on this, the Viewers Corner News team is calling on the Enugu state government and other state governments across Nigeria to pay these pensioners their allowances so that they can be able to buy food and get the medications that would sustain them.
