The world has become a global arena since the introduction of social media, in the sense that whatever happens in one corner of the world is noticed by other countries as well. Now hear this, for quite some time, the Lagos State Government has been demolishing properties worth billions of dollars belonging to a certain ethnic group in Nigeria. These properties were allegedly acquired legally by their owners under past governments.
Unfortunately, when the current government came into office, they decided to pull down those businesses and buildings, claiming that the owners did not get the required approvals. The current Lagos State Government also said that those buildings were not supposed to be built in those locations, hence, they pulled them down.
Some Nigerians who spoke to a Viewers Corner News correspondent in Lagos said that it was an act of hatred against the Igbos because they believe the Igbos are dominating everywhere. Some time ago, the Igbos in Lagos State were even asked to leave the state and return to their home states, which is terrible to hear.
Again, this attitude of demolishing properties and businesses has created huge doubts in the minds of some foreign investors who would have liked to come to Lagos State to invest, based on our findings. Some countries are also advising their citizens not to put any investments in Nigeria, especially in Lagos State because if the state government can demolish properties and businesses belonging to fellow Nigerians from other states, then it is likely that when foreigners invest in Lagos State, their businesses and properties could also be taken over or destroyed.
So we are appealing to the Lagos State Government in Nigeria to tread carefully, because this singular act can bring a huge setback to the country.
