SOUTH AFRICA PLANS TO WITHDRAW FROM INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT.

Viewers Corner News correspondent gathered that South Africa has decided to withdraw its membership from the International Criminal Court. According to the information, the country (South Africa) made this decision because of a dispute it had with the Hague based tribunal when South Africa failed to hand over President Omar al-Bashir of Sudan to the International Criminal Court (ICC). President Omar al-Bashir is wanted by International Criminal Court for alleged war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide. Under the Rome Statute which established the Criminal Court, South Africa as a member to the ICC has an obligation to arrest anyone wanted by the court. Last year (June 2015), President Omar al-Bashir of Sudan attended an African Union summit held in South Africa but he was not arrested by South African government, the government of South Africa said that her country found it difficult to arrest al-Bashir because of treaty obligations to the African Union.
South Africa will be the second African country to withdraw its membership from the ICC. Recently President Pierre Nkurunziza of Burundi signed a bill to make his country withdraw from ICC making Burundi the first country in Africa to take such bold step.
