Sheikh Gumi urges dialogue with bandits who are killing innocent Nigerians in the northern part of the country, as alleged

Information has emerged that Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a prominent figure in northern Nigeria, is once again calling for dialogue with bandits operating in the region. These groups, accused of killing innocent Nigerians and unleashing terror across various communities, have recently been seen boldly displaying dangerous weapons while reportedly coming forward for so-called “peace talks.”

Yet, while terrorists and bandits are being entertained and encouraged to negotiate, Nigerians who speak against injustice are being silenced. This double standard must come to an end. It is unacceptable for a government to extend an olive branch to those who have caused pain, bloodshed, and fear, while clamping down on citizens whose only “offence” is demanding fairness and accountability.

We also use this opportunity to once again call on the Federal Government of Nigeria to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who has remained in detention for years despite being acquitted by a competent court of law. At this point, continued detention raises serious questions about justice, democracy, and respect for the rule of law. If the courts, an arm of government have discharged him, then there is no legal or moral justification for holding him in custody.

Those killing innocent Nigerians should be the ones arrested and prosecuted, not citizens who speak against injustice. True peace cannot be achieved by rewarding violence and punishing dissent. It is time for the government to act responsibly, uphold justice, and end these troubling double standards.
