Sheikh Gumi reportedly wanted the government of Nigeria to seek military assistance from Turkey or Pakistan instead of the United States of America, and this did not go down well with most Nigerians.
We want to remind Sheikh Gumi that he is not in a position to dictate to the government of Nigeria where to seek military assistance from. One is forced to ask why Sheikh Gumi would suggest that Nigeria should request military assistance from Pakistan or Turkey. This suggestion does not make sense to many Nigerians, as the countries he mentioned are believed by some to be sympathetic or loyal to terrorists and bandits operating in the northern part of Nigeria due to religious affiliation.
For this reason, many Nigerians believe that the United States of America is the better option, and the majority of Nigerians are pleased with what President Donald Trump did. This move also sends a strong message to terrorists and bandits operating in Nigeria that if the killing of innocent Nigerians, especially Christians, does not stop, the United States of America will step up its involvement and deal with the situation decisively.
In the interest of peace and national unity, terrorists and bandits must end their attacks on Christians and other Nigerians immediately and permanently.
Nigeria’s security challenges require serious and strategic decisions, not personal opinions or religious sentiments. Suggestions that raise concerns about bias or divided loyalty only deepen public distrust. The safety of Nigerians must come first, and any international partnership that helps end terrorism and banditry should be welcomed. Peace will only return when violence against innocent citizens is brought to an end once and for all.
