Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmed Gumi, has been known for discussing and negotiating with bandits whose hideouts are in the forests of the northern part of Nigeria. In a functional government, anyone found to be negotiating with bandits should be called to order. The government of Nigeria needs to ask questions to find out the link between Sheikh Ahmed Gumi and the bandits. These bandits who kidnap people for ransom are very dangerous group of criminals because the pain and agony they inflict on their victims, including their families, have led to series of deaths. Therefore, saying that bandits do not kidnap to kill, but kidnap to make money, is a very bad statement. There is no justification for banditry. Those criminal groups in the northern part of Nigeria whose jobs are to kidnap their fellow human beings for ransom should be brought to book. Not too long ago, Nigeria’s military warned Sheikh Ahmed Gumi to be mindful of his statements. The truth is that some of these bandits allege that the weapons they are using come from the security agencies in Nigeria. If the government of the country is sincere and wants to end the insecurity across Nigeria, they should know exactly what to do. Kidnapping in Nigeria has become a big business for some hardened criminals, most especially in the northern part of the country, which the Viewers Corner News team is appealing to the federal government of Nigeria under the leadership of President Buhari to bring to an end so that the people of Nigeria can move freely and do their business without fear of being kidnapped or killed.
