Russia strike on Kyiv

Russian Strikes Kill Civilians, Damage EU and UK Offices in Kyiv

Russia launched one of its heaviest overnight attacks on Ukraine, killing at least 18 people, including four children, and injuring dozens more. Missiles and drones struck several cities, with Kyiv suffering the brunt of the assault.

The strikes damaged the European Union’s mission and the British Council offices in the capital, though no casualties were reported at those sites. Ukraine said the attacks also hit energy facilities, rail infrastructure, and residential areas, leaving thousands without power.
The Kremlin claimed it was targeting military and industrial sites, but Ukraine accused Moscow of deliberately hitting civilians and diplomatic buildings. Despite the assault, Russia insisted it still seeks peace talks, a position Kyiv dismisses as contradictory.

European leaders condemned the attack. Brussels said new sanctions are being prepared, and Berlin warned that such strikes cannot go unanswered. The UK also accused Moscow of deliberately sabotaging efforts toward peace.

Ukraine’s military reported shooting down most of the incoming drones and missiles but acknowledged that some critical infrastructure was destroyed. Officials warned that Russia may intensify attacks on the energy grid as winter approaches.
The strikes highlight a widening strategy by Moscow, mixing heavy bombardments with claims of diplomatic interest. For Ukraine and its allies, the immediate challenge is shoring up air defenses and energy security, while keeping pressure on Russia through sanctions and coordinated responses.
