Nigeria

Qualified Nigerians should show more interest in governance. This is one of the ways Nigeria as a country can move forward.

At this point, it is clear that leadership in Nigeria has been reduced to a norm where many of those in power do not possess the qualifications or capacity to hold the positions they occupy. Most of these individuals are pushed into office by godfathers who themselves have too many skeletons in their cupboards. This system has badly affected the quality of governance in the country.
There are shocking cases where individuals who cannot even read or write properly are put in government. At the state level, Nigerians have witnessed situations where a governor could not call out figures that were boldly written on a paper. How can such a leader be expected to perform effectively in office?
Recently, the West African Examination result of a governorship candidate of a political party in Nigeria surfaced, showing that he scored F9 in all the subjects he sat for. In other words, he failed every single subject. If such a person wins a governorship election, how can he possibly govern a state? He may be a good man in his own way, but governance is a serious business that requires competence, knowledge, and skill not just popularity or connections. Otherwise, such an individual would simply become a push-around governor.
The Viewers Corner News team is therefore appealing to those who sponsor unqualified candidates for top political offices to tread carefully. Leadership must be given to those who truly merit it. This is the only way Nigeria can grow, overcome its challenges, and earn the respect it deserves on the global stage.
If Nigeria continues to entrust its future to leaders without vision, competence, and credibility, then the country’s progress will remain a distant dream.
