PRESIDENT WIN MYINT OF MYANMAR HAS GRANTED AMNESTY TO OVER 8,500 PRISONERS INCLUDING POLITICAL PRISONERS.

In Myanmar, over 8,500 prisoners including political prisoners were granted amnesty by President Win Myint. The amnesty which was announced on Tuesday, April 17 coincided with the country’s (Myanmar) traditional new year. According to the report, the amnesty was granted to 8,490 Myanmar citizens and 51 foreigners. Those released included the drug offenders, the aged, 36 political prisoners and sick inmates. Also the president’s pardon is only for convicted criminals, meaning that those awaiting trial are excluded and the releases were to take place in all the prisons in the country.
