The Department of State Services (DSS) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission should be seen as close pals and be able to share intelligence for the benefits of the Nigerian people. These agencies are believed to be working directly under president Buhari’s watch, therefore there should not be any form of one agency trying to outdo the other one etc. We believe that this is a management failure which the presidency should look into properly. Our reason for saying so is about the recent rejection of Mr. Ibrahim Magu as the Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is based on the report sent to the Nigerian Senate by the DSS as alleged. Normally president Buhari’s government should make sure that every agency within his watch should be at peace with each other because they are pursuing the same goal which involves cleaning up of the Nigerian system to make it a better place for everyone. We do not expect them to be having problems with each other because as it is now, it shows that these agencies are not at peace with themselves, they are having internal disputes which needs the attention of the president. Again the senate should not have rushed into rejecting the confirmation of Ibrahim Magu as the chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission without carrying out proper investigation on their own. They should not rely only on DSS report as a weapon to reject his confirmation, such action does not show intelligence by the senate except if there are things they know which they are not telling Nigerians. We believe that Ibrahim Magu is the best man for this job and should be confirmed. It would also be better if those deliberating on Ibrahim Magu’s confirmation are people of integrity who would not see white and say it is black. Let neutral people in the senate be in-charge of this confirmation process and not those on the black book of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, this is the only way positive result can be achieved.
