Some Nigerians who spoke to Viewers Corner News correspondent in Abuja and Lagos said that Bukola Saraki’s senate leadership was better than Ahmad Lawan Senate leadership. Although there were many corruption issues during Saraki’s tenure, including padding of the budget as alleged, which has always been there in the National Assembly of Nigeria, most Nigerians said that they prefer senator Bukola Saraki’s tenure to Senator Ahmad Lawan’s tenure. One of the reasons they gave was that, under Senator Lawan, the senate can not say no to president Buhari especially on issues of loan borrowing. Each time a request to borrow money comes to the senate, as long as President Buhari is involved, Senator Lawan and members of the senate will approve it immediately. Nigeria is owing huge debts under Senate president Ahmad Lawan, but under the leadership of ex-senate president Bukola Saraki; questions would be asked before approving any loan, which is how the Senate is supposed to function. The senate, under the leadership of Senator Lawan allegedly said that the country might borrow to finance the 2022 budget, instead of looking inward to see where Nigeria can generate revenue. A country that relies so much on borrowing money at all times may not get better because of the enormous interest rate the government will be paying on loans. The country will be left with nothing which is affecting Nigeria. Those in power do not see anything wrong with such a pattern of borrowing money at any given time, which is terrible.
