Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has proven that a leader who is prepared to work for his people does not need so many years in office to show results. Also, Captain Ibrahim Traoré of Burkina Faso has been in office for just a short time, yet he has transformed his country to an unimaginable level never seen before.
We believe that some dishonest politicians in Nigeria, and those who have nothing to offer their people, often argue that four years is not enough for any leader to prove his worth. But the truth remains: if corruption, cost of governance, and insecurity are effectively tackled, which any capable leader can handle within a short time, every other sector of governance will naturally fall into place. In fact, these key areas can be addressed within six months if a leader truly knows what to do.
Look at Anambra State, when Professor Charles Soludo came to power, the people had high hopes that he would uplift the state. Today, insecurity and poor governance have taken over, dashing the hopes of many.
The lesson is clear: four years is more than enough for a sincere leader to change lives, and any politician asking for more time without results is simply making excuses.
