The Nigerian justice system has become completely dysfunctional and is now a laughing stock in the eyes of the world. What a shame.

The trial of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has exposed the depth of corruption within the Nigerian judiciary. While some judges may genuinely desire to deliver honest and fair judgments, it appears that a higher force is constantly pressuring them to bend the law. Many fear the consequences of doing the right thing, and this has been the major reason the trial of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has been moving back and forth for years.

Now that the corrupt system has finally jailed him, it seems they can relax and pretend justice has been served. It is painful to see a country like Nigeria, once expected to lead Africa lose its value and credibility before the world.

Everywhere you turn in Nigeria today, there is one crisis or another. Corruption is massive. The economy has collapsed. Terrorists in the northern region continue killing innocent Nigerians daily, and the government seems unable or unwilling to stop the bloodshed. Yet, a man who speaks the truth has been sent to prison for life. What a tragedy.

At this point, living in Nigeria or even visiting Nigeria can no longer be considered safe. The insecurity is overwhelming. The judiciary itself has lost public trust, and many judges have reduced the courts to meaningless institutions where injustice reigns. This is truly heartbreaking.
