For all divisions of government to work effectively, those appointed or elected to positions of authority in the country should be individuals with outstanding qualities who can move the nation forward. Recently, Nigerians watched a senator, Mr. Onyekachi Nwaebonyi, who represents Ebonyi North at the National Assembly, and listened to his views on certain issues. After listening to him and assessing his contributions as a leader, some observers believe that he has little to offer to the people of his constituency.
They also argue that there are many individuals like Mr. Onyekachi Nwaebonyi at the National Assembly who may not have the capacity required to provide effective leadership. This situation has raised concerns about the quality of representation in the country.
Based on this, we are appealing to Nigerians to always carefully evaluate those they choose to elect at all levels of government. If individuals without the necessary capacity are elected into office, meaningful progress may not be achieved.
Therefore Nigerians are advised to be guided when making electoral decisions.
