Former President Goodluck Jonathan may not have delivered outstanding leadership during his tenure as President of Nigeria. However, many Nigerians believe that the level of insecurity experienced during his administration was not as severe as what the country is currently facing under the All Progressives Congress (APC) government.
While several serious issues occurred during Jonathan’s time in office, Nigerians were, to a large extent, able to travel from one part of the country to another without the constant fear of being kidnapped or killed. Today, under the APC-led government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, insecurity has reached alarming levels, leaving citizens fearful and vulnerable.
Many Nigerians trace the escalation of insecurity to the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari. Since then, kidnapping and killings, particularly in the northern part of the country have become widespread. Abductions for ransom are now common, and families who are unable to meet ransom demands often face devastating consequences, including the loss of their loved ones.
Across the country, insecurity has become a daily reality, and many citizens believe that the ruling party has failed to provide effective solutions. Despite repeated assurances, the APC government is widely perceived as lacking a clear and workable strategy to address the worsening security situation.
As the 2027 general elections approach, there are growing calls for Nigerians to take a firm stand by voting the APC out of office. Many believe that allowing the party to continue in power could deepen the nation’s problems and worsen the current crisis. Nigerians are therefore encouraged to speak with one voice at the polls and demand leadership that prioritises security, accountability, and the protection of human lives.
