The government of Nigeria is allegedly trying to ban the use of indigenous languages in schools while promoting and adopting English as the primary language.

Those leading Nigeria at the moment have, as alleged, systematically sold the country back to the colonial mindset by attempting to sideline indigenous languages and elevate English at all levels. This is terrible. Nigeria, once celebrated as the Giant of Africa, now appears to be falling far below that title.

While almost every African country is actively promoting and protecting its native languages, Nigeria seems to be moving in the opposite direction: a situation that is both surprising and disappointing. Many Nigerians believe the current leaders have betrayed the cultural identity of the nation, and they are not happy about it.

We are hoping that a day will come when a new generation of leaders will be elected into various offices across the country. When that happens, they may finally have the opportunity to repair the already damaged system and rebuild Nigeria in a way that respects its cultural heritage and strengthens its future.
