Many of Nigeria’s Ambassadorial Nominees Raise Serious Concerns.

The recent list of individuals nominated to represent Nigeria as ambassadors has shocked many citizens. Instead of inspiring confidence, several of the names put forward have been described as troubling, questionable, and even laughable.

The government of Nigeria shocked the nation once again when it released the list of ambassadorial nominees awaiting approval by the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It is difficult to believe that such a list was compiled after proper background checks. An ambassador should be a person of integrity, someone who represents the country with honour, dignity, and strong leadership values. Unfortunately, many of the nominees fall far short of this expectation.

A number of them are known, both locally and internationally, to have troubling histories or unresolved issues that cast doubts on their character. This makes their nomination not only surprising but deeply disappointing. The APC government under President Bola Tinubu should not present individuals with questionable reputations to serve as Nigeria’s representatives abroad. Such actions weaken the country’s image at a time when credibility is more important than ever.

For this reason, we call on the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to thoroughly scrutinize each nominee and reject those who clearly do not meet the standards required for such sensitive positions. Nigerians across the country have voiced their concerns, and the Senate must listen.

The truth is simple: individuals who lack credibility cannot advance Nigeria’s interests on the global stage. Approving such nominees would do more harm than good. This is the reality, whether we accept it or not.
