The former minister of Malaysia (Najib Razak) was recently in court charged with corruption related offences (three counts of criminal breach of trust and one charge of abuse of power). Najib Razak is being accused of embezzling public money from 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), a state investment fund which Najib and others allegedly siphoned off billions of dollars. According to the report, he was arrested on Tuesday by a special task force at his home in Kuala Lumpur. Many Malaysians expected Najib Razak’s arrest after United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) lost in the May 9, 2018 election. Najib is seen as a corrupt person and he is the main reason why the ruling party (UMNO) was defeated. If found guilty by the court, he may face up to 20 years in prison and a minimum fine of five times the value looted, he may also face lashes with a whip.
