Mr. Kwon Oh-Hyun, the chief executive officer and Vice Chairman of Samsung Electronics announced on Friday, October 10, 2017 that he is stepping down from his post, citing unprecedented crisis. Mr Kwon announced his resignation the same day the South Korean tech giant (Samsung electronics) forecast the company’s quarterly (July-September) profit of 14.5 tillion won ($12.81billion). Viewers Corner News correspondent gathered that Samsung is in a leadership crisis situation after the heir of the Samsung Group (Lee Jae-yong) was convicted of bribery and corruption and sentenced to five years in jail in August. Mr Lee was accused of giving donations worth 41billion won ($36 million) to non-profit foundations in return for political favours. Mr. Kwon Oh-Hyun will remain on the board of Samsung Electronics until March 2018.
