Not too long ago, the Senate President of Nigeria said that Nigerians always want to hear unpleasant news about their lawmakers at the National Assembly. The reason is that Nigerians have no trust in the activities of the lawmakers. Based on our findings, Nigerians believe that the lawmakers are in the National Assembly for their own personal gains and not in the interest of the people of Nigeria. Nigerians also believe that most things coming from the National Assembly are not what would favour the masses of the country, hence their negative reactions towards the lawmakers. The Senate President of Nigeria (Mr Ahmed Lawan) allegedly said in the past that any request coming from the presidency to the senate, no matter how, would be approved. This statement is questionable, even without looking at the issue objectively, whether it is right or not, it has to be approved. In this situation, what do you expect Nigerians to say or do? They believe that the Senate should not have been run that way in a democracy. Look at Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, who was accused of stealing billions of Naira through fraudulent contracts at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), recently joined the All Progressives Congress.
In no time, his case will become history. What about Senator James Manager, a man alleged to be very corrupt who was among those senators in the Niger Delta that destroyed the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and others. No one is talking about them anymore and these Senators are duly elected by their people to represent them at the National Assembly of Nigeria. They went there to enrich themselves, leaving people of their various communities to suffer severe hardship, which is bad.
The people of Nigeria believe that the lawmakers at the National Assembly are very corrupt and are one of the reasons that Nigeria as a country is not moving forward.
