Meng Hongwei, the former Interpol chief is on trial in a court in Tianjin and our correspondent learnt that Mr Meng Hongwei has pleaded guilty for taking bribe of over $2m (£1.6m) during a court hearing on Thursday in the northern city of Tianjin, China. He was accused of taking 14.5 million yuan ($2.1m) in unlawful payments between 2005 and 2017. Grace Meng (wife of Meng Hongwei) who was granted political asylum in France in May over fear that she and her children might be kidnapped said that charges against her husband are politically motivated. Meng Hongwei (65 years old), the first Chinese head of Interpol was elected Interpol president in November 2016.
