Khalifa Haftar men released

LIBYA FORCES IN ZAWIYA FREED PRISONERS LOYAL TO LIBYAN MILITARY COMMANDER KHALIFA HAFTAR TO SOLIDIFY NATIONAL RECONCILIATION.

It was reported that over 100 captives taken from Libyan military commander Khalifa Haftar of eastern-based Libyan National Army (LNA) were freed by Forces in Zawiya in western Libya to solidify national reconciliation. The prisoners were released on Wednesday, 31 March 2021 during an official ceremony at the Olympic Club Stadium in Zawia. According to the report, the men were captured in April 2019 when military commander Khalifa Haftar launched an assault in order to seize control of Tripoli (Libyan capital). The country’s cease fire and national reconciliation were agreed in October in Geneva which led to the formation of a new unity government to replace two rival governments that had ruled in east and west.
