K. MITTAL (THE HEAD OF INDIA’S RAILWAYS) RESIGNED FROM HIS POST FOLLOWING DEADLY TRAIN CRASHES IN THE COUNTRY.

Viewers Corner News correspondent learned that K. Mittal (India’s railways chief) has resigned after several deadly crashes on the country’s railway network. Mr. Ashwani Lohani will succeed K. Mittal who had been in the post since 2014. Suresh Prabhu, the country’s railway minister also resigned from his post. Accidents frequently occur on India’s railway network which many are blaming under-investment and poor safety standards. Recently 23 people lost their lives and many wounded when a train derailed in northern India. On Saturday last week, another deadly accident occurred in Uttar Pradesh state and in January, over 40 people were killed in the southern state of Andra Pradesh when a train derailed. India’s railway network is the fourth largest in the world and a major means of transportation in the country. It is estimated that up to 15,000 passengers loss their lives every year in the country due to rail accidents.
