Former Independent National Electoral Commission Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, is a disgrace to Nigeria and to the authority that awarded him the professorship. We say this because, as a Professor, such an individual should, to a large extent, be a person of integrity whom society can look up to for guidance, especially in critical areas. But in Nigeria, many Professors are criminals who may not have merited the titles they hold, like Professor Mahmood Yakubu, Nigeria’s former Independent National Electoral Commission Chairman, who deceived Nigerians during the 2023 presidential election.
This man called Professor Mahmood Yakubu allegedly took bribes and announced presidential election results that never existed, instead of declaring the rightful winner of the election. When the matter got to court, corrupt judges in Nigeria allegedly took bribes and supported the forged presidential election results, which brought the APC and President Bola Tinubu’s government into office. Since then, Nigerians have not known peace, which is very sad.
Right now, the Sharia Islamic Council in Northern Nigeria and some corrupt northern leaders, who believe that whoever leads Nigeria must play by their rules, are allegedly supporting the corrupt political system that brought the APC and President Bola Tinubu to power. They are saying that Professor Joash Amupitan, the current Independent National Electoral Commission Chairman, should be removed immediately because he supported what they call the Christian genocide happening in Northern Nigeria, where Christians are being massacred daily.
As a result of his statements, and because Professor Joash Amupitan is a Christian, the Sharia Islamic Council claims it cannot trust him. Instead, they want him removed from office and prefer that another Professor from the northern part of Nigeria be appointed.
Based on this, Christians in Nigeria are saying that Professor Joash Amupitan must not be removed from office, which, in our opinion, is fair enough. Again, considering how Professor Joash Amupitan is handling the activities of the Independent National Electoral Commission of Nigeria and how he has been speaking out, Nigerians should support him fully so that he can conduct the 2027 elections effectively.
