It was revealed that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission of Nigeria opposed ex-governor Yahaya Bello’s trip abroad for a medical treatment. The agency, based on our findings, asked ex-governor Yahaya Bello to seek treatment in any of the hospitals he built in Kogi State, if there are any. Honestly, this is a welcome development because that abroad that ex-governor Yahaya Bello is trying to go to and get a medical treatment in was built by human beings like him, so he should stay in Nigeria and get a medical treatment. Again, ex-governor Yahaya Bello, who is a very corrupt man, stayed eight years in office as governor of Kogi State, and throughout this period, he was unable to build or renovate a hospital in Kogi State where he can be treated. Also, there are records in the public domain concerning how ex-governor Yahaya Bello allegedly stole billions of naira belonging to the people of Kogi State; now he wants to leave Nigeria to avoid being properly prosecuted. We understand that the present leadership of Nigeria is so corrupt that most probably ex-governor Yahaya Bello may have used his stolen money and connections to have his alleged fraudulent activities covered. But then, we are hoping and believing that the next leadership of Nigeria will visit his files the moment they get into office, and when that happens, ex-governor Yahaya Bello will not escape justice. So denying him the possibility of traveling abroad for a medical treatment is good because if he leaves Nigeria, he may not return to the country to answer for his alleged crimes.
