Nigeria is a very rich country and among the richest in the world in all aspects. What the country lacks is leadership. Nigeria has many individuals who would want to work to make the country great if they are given the opportunity. The problem is that those elderly ones, who have been in power for so many years without achieving much, have refused to leave the office or get things done the right way. When they finally decide to leave, they make sure that they install candidates of their choice who they can manipulate to favour their evil agendas. This group of ex-leaders in Nigeria are so rich and very corrupt, hence they can manipulate people to do their bidding. How did they become so rich? It is by stealing from the treasury of Nigeria. Those who challenge them are either killed or sent to jail through cooking up an offence against such an individual, and the rest is history. Nigeria’s past leaders budgeted billions of dollars to give the people of Nigeria electricity, but up till now, there is no constant electricity and the money is nowhere to be found. No arrest has been made as of today. Under the leadership of ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, billions of dollars were squandered and the same ex-president, Goodluck Jonathan, is now parading himself everywhere as an honest man. President Buhari’s administration, which many Nigerians expected to solve most of these problems based on his previous good record, is no longer the man people knew in the past as a no-nonsense leader. If not as a result of leadership failure, Nigeria would not need to borrow money at any given opportunity. What Nigeria needs to build the country is right within the country. Somehow, there is nothing too bad about borrowing money to execute projects that would bring benefits to the people of the country. When those ventures begin to yield profit, the country can then pay back the loan, but in Nigeria, that is not so. Most contracts in the country are awarded with a percentage of kickback going to various people who assisted in bringing the contract out, making it difficult for the contractor to use quality materials to execute the contract (corruption). In Nigeria, there is manipulation of the budget (padding), meaning that corruption is still bringing the country backward. Rain recently entered some parts of Nigeria’s National Assembly building, and some lawmakers claimed that if they had approved the 37 billion Naira requested to renovate the building, such a problem would not have occurred. Most Nigerian lawmakers are now justifying their position on why such a large sum of money was required to repair the National Assembly building. The truth is that 37 billion Naira that was requested to use and renovate the National Assembly building is huge. There are many dirty games in the House, which is why few honest lawmakers and the majority of Nigerians opposed it. Again, telling the truth at all times is a way forward which the Viewers Corner News team is appealing to the leaders of Nigeria to adopt as a way of life because it is lacking in their system.
