IRAN HAS RELEASED A BRITISH-FLAGGED OIL TANKER HELD SINCE JULY 2019 BY IRAN.

Viewers Corner News correspondent learned that the British-flagged oil tanker (Stena Impero) seized by Iran since 19 July 2019 has been released by Iran. The oil tanker Stena Impero was seized by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard in the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas. The spokesman of Iranian government (Ali Rabiei) said on Monday that the legal proceedings against the oil tanker (Stena Impero) had been concluded, hence the release of the vessel. Erik Hanell, President and CEO of Swedish-based Stena Bulk, owner of the vessel confirmed the release. He stated that the oil tanker (Stena Impero) and its crew have left Iran on Friday morning and was heading towards the United Arab Emirates. He also said that the ship’s crew will stop at Dubai to receive medical checks. The oil tanker Stena Impero was seized after the Iranian supertanker carrying $130 million in crude oil was seized on 4 July 2019 by Authorities in Gibraltar (a British overseas territory) on suspicion that the vessel was breaking European Union sanctions by taking the oil to Syria. Gibraltar later released the vessel after Iran reportedly promised that the ship would not go to Syria.
