Hajia Halima Shehu

Hajia Halima Shehu in-charge of poverty alleviation program in Nigeria allegedly transferred billions of naira belonging to the government into her four private bank accounts and said it was a mistake.

Hajia Halima Shehu, who is in charge of the poverty alleviation program in Nigeria, allegedly transferred billions of naira into her four private bank accounts. During interrogation, she claimed the money was mistakenly transferred. But the shocking part is that the alleged money was deposited into four different accounts belonging to her.

It is pathetic to hear that someone at that level, who should understand the daily struggles of Nigerians, could divert such an enormous sum and then dismiss it as an error. This level of recklessness is alarming.

We are appealing to the government of Nigeria to ensure this case is not swept under the carpet. If she is found guilty, she should face a long jail term to serve as a deterrent to other corrupt officials looting Nigeria’s treasury. Anything short of that would confirm what many already fear that corruption in Nigeria is no longer an exception but the rule.
