France should return whatever it stole from Africa before African leaders can consider listening to France. These are the conditions now being set by leaders across the continent.

France allegedly claims that the process of returning looted resources is “complicated.” Yet, when these resources were being taken from Africa, there was nothing complicated about it. Now that African nations are demanding what is rightfully theirs, the same countries responsible for the looting are suddenly finding excuses.

President Ibrahim Traoré has stated that France must return everything it took from Africa if it expects African countries to listen or cooperate. The same demand applies to Britain. The United Kingdom has no gold mines, yet it is among the nations with the largest gold reserves in the world, much of it taken from African countries during the colonial era.

Today, strong and awakened African leaders are insisting on the return of their stolen wealth, and this is a welcome development. They have made it clear that restitution is the only condition under which they will engage with France on equal terms. Return what you took otherwise, there will be no dialogue, no cooperation, and no deal.

Africa has endured humiliation and exploitation for too long. Those days are ending. A new generation of African leadership is determined to act on its own terms and reclaim the dignity, wealth, and future of the continent.
