Former President Goodluck Jonathan is currently respected by many Nigerians, with some even calling him a hero of democracy, largely because the leaders who came after him have failed to repair Nigeria’s broken economy. However, our advice to him is simple: do not run for the 2027 presidential election.
The reality is that he will not win, and more importantly, he is not the right person for the job. During his time in power, numerous failures and damaging policies left deep scars on the nation, details we will not enumerate now, but they remain fresh in the memories of many Nigerians.
If Jonathan chooses to contest, those ugly chapters from his presidency will resurface, dragging his name through the mud and erasing the goodwill he currently enjoys. Instead, he should preserve the image Nigerians have of him today: that of a leader who stepped aside peacefully when defeated and who is remembered, at least in part, for upholding democratic principles.
The truth is that when Jonathan was in power, many of the nation’s worst problems were either created or left unresolved under his watch. That is why he was voted out in the first place. For his own legacy, and for Nigeria’s future, Goodluck Jonathan should stay out of the 2027 race.
