Peter Obi

EX-GOVERNOR PETER OBI SAID THAT HE DID NOT KNOW THAT HE WOULD DECLARE THE ASSETS HE OWNS WITH OTHERS.

This is one of the lies that most Nigerian politicians tell when they are caught in the act of wrongdoing.

Ignorance is not an excuse under the law. A man like ex-governor Peter Obi, a very informed individual who led a state in Nigeria years back and later became a running mate to ex-vice president Atiku Abubakar under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party of Nigeria, said that he did not know that all his assets both within and outside Nigeria should be declared. If not for the Pandora Papers leak, which exposed some Nigerian politicians with their activities outside Nigeria, no one would have found out about Mr. Peter Obi’s hidden assets. Our point here is about being honest to the people of Nigeria who elected you to office to lead them. Whether the money was made before you became the governor of Anambra state or not, as a leader, being honest to the people of the country would go a long way in nation building and the unity of the people of Nigeria. If at Mr. Peter Obi’s level, as he claimed not to know that he would declare all his assets, then such a man should not have been seen in any corridor of power. Nigerian politicians are dishonest. As it stands now, this group of politicians may no longer have the opportunity to lie to the people of Nigeria anymore because most of the information about them is easily available. Sometime ago, it was alleged that some of Mr. Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s asset declaration papers were taken away from the strong room where they were kept. Perhaps those who carried out such operations may have seen something incriminating in that file, hence that particular paper was removed in an attempt to protect Mr. Bola Ahmed Tinubu. These dirty games being played by politicians in Nigeria in order to keep on staying in power will not work anymore because Nigerians are wiser now and will not allow dishonest politicians to lead them anymore.
