Diego Maradona’s spokesman (Sebastian Sanchi) said he died on Wednesday of heart attack at his home in Tigre near Buenos Aires, two weeks after being released from a hospital in Buenos Aires following brain surgery. Argentina has declared three days of national mourning and Maradona’s body will lie in state at the Casa Rosada (the seat of the Argentina government). Diego Maradona played for clubs including Barcelona and Napoli, he was Argentina’s captain when the country won the 1986 World Cup. He scored the famous “Hand of God” goal against England in the quarter-finals and this made him an Argentine deity. He scored 81 goals in 188 appearances for the Italian club and scored 34 goals in 91 appearances for his country Argentina. Maradona, widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time will be remembered all over the world as a genius in football. May his soul rest in peace.
