Canada allegedly named two major political parties in Nigeria as terrorist organisations, which is troubling.

How did Canada arrive at such a conclusion: allegedly naming the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as terrorist organisations? Honestly, this is troubling. It is true that the ruling political party in Nigeria has often been accused of failing to respect the rights of citizens, with reports of Nigerians being randomly arrested for criticising the government. We also believe that arresting people for speaking their minds when the government is not doing the right thing runs against the principles of democracy. Nigerians have every right to air their views, and no government should clamp down on that freedom. At the same time, insecurity in Nigeria remains widespread, with the APC-led government struggling to provide meaningful solutions. But does this failure automatically make the APC or even the PDP: a terrorist organisation? That is a serious classification with far-reaching consequences. For this reason, the Viewers Corner News team is appealing to the government of Nigeria to urgently clear its name from such an ugly and damaging list, because it is not one that should be associated with the country or its major political parties.
