The Viewers Corner News team applauds those who recently protested, calling on the government of Nigeria to free Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, whom they believe has been unjustly detained for years, while bandits and terrorists walk freely in the country. The organisers of the protest did a great job. It is their right to protest peacefully based on the laws of Nigeria.
At this point, the government of Nigeria must understand the power of the people who elected them into office. It was also shown to the world how Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria, was completely shut down by protesters. It was revealed that some protesters were arrested, and even a lead lawyer to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was among those arrested. We are appealing to the government of Nigeria to release him and the other protesters because, as human beings, they have every right to protest.
Again, there is no law in Nigeria that forbids a lawyer from protesting. Therefore, detaining the lead lawyer to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and others should be seen as a violation of their fundamental human rights. Hence, the Viewers Corner News team joins Nigerians in calling for the immediate release of all arrested protesters.
We would also use this opportunity to plead with those organising protests to plan properly for such activities. If any protest is going to be carried out, it should not be a one-day event. A protest that will yield positive results must continue until the authorities hear the cries and demands of the protesters. Protesting for one day is good, but it will not attract the required attention needed for real change.
