Alleged Disruption of ADC Membership Registration in Bakassi Raises Concern

Thugs allegedly loyal to the All Progressives Congress in Nigeria have disrupted the ongoing membership registration of the African Democratic Congress in Bakassi Local Government Area of Cross River State.

In Bakassi Local Government Area of Cross River State, it was alleged that individuals believed to be loyal to the All Progressives Congress, the ruling political party in Nigeria, went to the venue where the African Democratic Congress was conducting its membership registration and disrupted the process.

Our correspondent further revealed that the individuals reportedly declared that they do not want any other political party operating in Bakassi Local Government Area except the All Progressives Congress. This development has raised concern among observers.

We want to advise those politicians in Nigeria who are allegedly using thugs to intimidate members of other political parties to stop such actions. The seeds of intimidation and hostility planted today may bring negative consequences in the future.

The African Democratic Congress should be allowed to carry out its membership registration in any part of Nigeria as required under the law without intimidation or interference.

We are therefore calling on the Inspector General of Police to investigate the incident, identify those involved, and determine their sponsors so that appropriate legal action can be taken if necessary.

Nigeria’s elections should be conducted in a free and fair manner, similar to what is practiced in many democratic countries around the world.
